This is the closest thing you’ll get to cornering a clinician at a conference, except we actually want the questions.

Post what you’re stuck on. Skills, study, choosing a path, what the work is really like. I’ll answer when I’m between cases, and Dr Francois and Reg are in here too. Some answers will be short. Some will turn into proper discussions. Both are fine.

One ask. Don’t post anything that needs a real diagnosis, yours or anyone else’s. We teach here, we don’t treat. Keep it about learning and we’ll go a long way together.

This is the feature I didn’t know I wanted. Direct access to actual doctors. Thank you.

Going to behave myself and not flood this with ten questions at once. Maybe. No promises.

Question for whoever wants to take it: for shadowing hours, do you actually keep a signed log with dates/hours, or just a letter at the end? Applying to programs back home and I want to make sure I’m not scrambling last minute trying to get someone to remember what days I showed up in March.

Log it as you go, don’t rely on a letter at the end. Programs vary in what they want, but the pattern that never fails you is a simple sheet with date, hours, department, and a supervisor initial or signature on the spot, that same day if you can get it. Six months from now nobody remembers whether you were there on a Tuesday in March, including the doctor you shadowed. At the end you can still ask for a summary letter.
