      Hi everyone,

I just joined the community, and I have a few questions for the doctors here. What is your favorite thing about being a doctor, and why? Did you ever regret choosing medicine at any point? How did you know your specialty was the right fit for you? Was there a particular experience that made you decide

      Thank you!

Welcome Yusrah. I’ll answer for myself, not for medicine in general.

What I liked most was the moment a patient’s story and the exam findings finally clicked into one picture. That never got old, decades in. Did I regret it at times? Yes, particularly during the long stretches of night duty as a junior doctor when the fatigue made everything feel hard. That passed once I had more say over my own hours and started my own practice.

I didn’t pick my path through some single defining moment. My dad recommended dentistry and it made sense. After that I specialised in Maxillofacial and Oral surgery.

If nothing has grabbed you yet, that’s normal at this stage. Most people figure it out by elimination, not by lightning bolt. If you haven’t done the “Which Branch of Medicine” questionnaire, I recommend it.
